Our adventure with Barolo starts in 2007

An ambitious bet, started almost by chance and then actualized in a passionate project: share our love for wine outside of the Roero limits, to interpret the Nebbiolo grape in one of its most elegant and pure expressions.

A family history

When we tell this story, we jokingly like to say that we have exchanged a sister for a vineyard. It was thanks to our older sister Gianna, and her marriage with a man from La Morra (Gianni Oberto), that we became owners of a small piece of land in the Boiolo territory.

The vineyard is located at the limit with the MGA Brunate, one of the most visited routes, going from the city center to the Barolo Chapel by Sol Le Witt & David Tremlett. With this high potential, we have decided to invest in this land planting it with a Nebbiolo that – from the 2009 harvest – gives us a harmonious, balanced, and complex Barolo.

In 2018 two small additional vineyards (one of which in Serra Denari) were added to the production. From the harvest of 2021 a powerful and well-structured Barolo comes from these lands, rich in chalk and iron.

The vineyards got the organic certification in 2009, while the wines Barolo Boiolo and Serra Denari got it from 2021.

Il nostro Barolo - Cantina Malvirà

Barolo according to Malvirà

Our interpretation of Barolo comes from a three-generations-long experience with the cultivation and vinification of the Nebbiolo grape.

During the years we have learnt to appreciate every little shade of this variety, which in Malvirà finds its best expression in the Roero DOCG.

With the Barolo as well, we adopt a traditional approach, with a medium-long maceration in stainless steel tanks and a 24-36 months-long ageing in French and Austrian wooden barrels. The wine completes its evolution for at least 1 year in the bottle before being released on the market.

We produce the Barolo in our cellar – located just below the bastions of la Morra – which is possible to visit to taste and buy our wines.
